Washington Commanders practice squad WR Ja'Corey Brooks and WR Tay Martin were elevated to the active roster Monday, Oct. 13, and will be available for the Week 6 game.
Link to storyNew York Jets QB Justin Fields had a disappointing performance in Week 6, but head coach Aaron Glenn indicated that he is not thinking about benching Fields since he has played well at times this season.
Footballguys view: As previously noted, Glenn told reporters Monday that he thought Fields "took a step back" in Sunday's loss to the Broncos in London, but the performance won't lead the coach to bench the veteran. "I don't think you just try to bench a player after having one true bad game, because I thought the other games he played fairly well," Glenn said when approached with the idea of sitting Fields. The Jets play the Panthers in Week 7. |

Baltimore Ravens LB Tavius Robinson (foot) is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks because of the broken foot he suffered during the Week 6 game, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
Link to storyJacksonville Jaguars LB Devin Lloyd (calf) suffered a calf injury during the Week 6 game and is being evaluated.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (eye) will miss at least one week after suffering a fractured orbital bone during pregame warmups Sunday, Oct. 12, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Stephen Holder, Richardson could miss multiple games, and the Colts are deliberating on how to proceed in Richardson's absence. Rookie Riley Leonard, a sixth-round pick from Notre Dame, is the only remaining quarterback on the roster. The Colts, according to Holder, will consider signing a veteran to back up Daniel Jones depending on Richardson's timeline. But given the dearth of options in free agency, Leonard is under consideration for the job. The Colts, who lead the NFL in scoring at 32.3 points per game, travel to Los Angeles for a Week 7 matchup with the Chargers on Sunday. |

Washington Commanders WR Deebo Samuel (heel) is expected to play in the Week 6 game even though he is listed as questionable, according to ESPN's Lisa Salters.
Footballguys view: Samuel was listed as questionable to play because of a heel injury, and head coach Dan Quinn said over the weekend that Samuel was set to be a game-time decision. After he played through this injury in Los Angeles last Sunday, it won't be a surprise if he does the same tonight. Samuel has 30 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns (and a touchdown run) in five games this season. Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown have been ruled out, which would leave Samuel to join Luke McCaffrey, Chris Moore, and Jaylin Lane at receiver on Monday night. |

Dallas Cowboys WR KaVontae Turpin (foot) may be able to play in the Week 7 game, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Footballguys view: In discussing CeeDee Lamb's possible return from a high-ankle sprain, Jones included Turpin and first-round pick Tyler Booker as players who could also return to action against the Commanders. If the Cowboys can return to full strength on offense, let's hope the defense can find a way to keep up. With the way Dallas' defense has been performing, the offense has to be near perfect to have a chance to win. Having all their pieces would help. We'll be watching for more. |
Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (ankle) has a chance to return to the lineup in Week 7, according to according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys' offense has been playing at an elite level, despite absences from key playmakers like Lamb and KaVontae Turpin in recent weeks. Lamb has been out of action since suffering a high-ankle sprain just seven snaps into the team's Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears. In Lamb's absence, George Pickens has stepped up in a big way. But a potential Lamb return in Week 7 against the division rival Washington Commanders opens the door to seeing if the duo can take this offense to further heights. We'll be watching for more as the week progresses. |

Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker (quadriceps) has a chance to play in Week 7 depending on how he feels during practice this week, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: Head coach Dave Canales spoke with reporters Monday afternoon in wrapping up Sunday's 30-27 walk-off win over the Cowboys. The victory did not feature Coker, who was ruled out of the contest on Saturday due to his quad strain. Canales was asked how close the team is to activating the second-year receiver this weekend. "He's really close," Canales replied. The Panthers designated the 23-year-old to return to practice last Wednesday and listed him as a full participant throughout the week. Another week of full participation will likely be enough to get Coker activated for Week 7. |
As the Bengals prepare to play the Steelers on a short week, head coach Zac Taylor had injury updates on some key players during his Monday press conference. Taylor said tight end Mike Gesicki will be sidelined for some time while dealing with a pectoral injury.
Footballguys view: "He'll be out for this game for sure. Getting more information now," Taylor said. "It's going to be a while. We'll just see what that means." Gesicki has eight catches for 61 yards so far this season. Noah Fant and Tanner Hudson will serve as the top receiving threats at the position in Gesicki's absence. |

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan was fired Monday, Oct. 13.
Footballguys view: Callahan took over as head coach of the Titans in January of 2024. The team went 3-14 last season and is currently 1-5 this year. The last straw for Callahan came in Las Vegas on Sunday, a 20-10 loss after which defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons said the team had one of its worst weeks of practice. Callahan exits with a record of 4-19. An interim head coach has not yet been named. We'll follow up on that when an announcement is made. The Titans return to action on Sunday against the New England Patriots at Nissan Stadium. |
Minnesota Vikings LB Blake Cashman (hamstring) had his 21-day practice window opened Monday, Oct. 13.
Footballguys view: The linebacker suffered a hamstring injury against the Bears in Minnesota's season opener. Cashman started 14 games last season and led the team in tackles with 112 (68 solo). He also totaled 4.5 sacks, 11 QB hits, eight tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, and eight passes defensed. Cashman typically quarterbacks Brian Flores' defense, wearing the "green dot" helmet. Eric Wilson has filled in admirably during Cashman's absence, having recorded 35 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles so far this season. The Vikings have three weeks to activate Cashman or he'll revert to season-ending IR. |

Minnesota Vikings QB Carson Wentz (shoulder) will practice this week. He's dealing with an injury to his left, non-throwing shoulder.
Footballguys view: The Vikings have not revealed specifics about Wentz's shoulder injury, with coach Kevin O'Connell saying on Oct. 6 that it "will be something that we'll be taking a look at throughout this week." That he'll practice is obviously a good sign, but the Vikings' quarterback situation is "murky" entering their Week 7 showdown against the struggling Eagles. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday that J.J. McCarthy still isn't 100 percent healthy from the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons. We'll be following up all week. |
Carson Wentz player page
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy's (ankle) status is up in the air for Week 7 as head coach Kevin O'Connell said he wasn't willing to project where McCarthy might be by the end of the week. McCarthy will do limited work in practice Monday, Oct. 13.
Footballguys view: McCarthy was initially expected to miss four weeks with the ankle injury he suffered in Week 2. But, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Sunday, McCarthy is still not 100 percent. Pelissero added that coaches need to see his mobility, how the ankle responds, and they've got to make sure McCarthy is comfortable and in a groove from an operational perspective before they put him back out on the field. So this week's practices will be important, especially with Carson Wentz working through a sore shoulder. Minnesota's first participation report of the week will be released on Wednesday. |
Cincinnati Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson (back) is day-to-day after receiving positive scans on his back. The Bengals play Thursday, Oct. 16.
Footballguys view: Hendrickson had an MRI that came back clean, which opened the door for him to play in a matter of days. Hendrickson was on the field for just 43 percent of Cincinnati's defensive snaps on Sunday. He's tallied 4.0 sacks with three tackles for loss and eight QB hits this season. With Hendrickson out, duties on the edge go to Joseph Ossai and depth names like Myles Murphy and Cam Sample. Bengals first-round pick Shemar Stewart just missed his fourth consecutive game with an ankle injury and remains a question mark for Thursday night, too. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) could practice this week, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
Footballguys view: According to FOX Sports' Greg Auman, Evans' initial three-to-four-week timeline, he's now missed three games, is worth noting here. "How he feels there Friday-Saturday will determine whether he can go Monday vs. Lions in Detroit," Auman wrote. With the Lions and Bucs playing on Monday night, that gives Evans an extra day this week to get right, increasing his chances of playing. The fact that Chris Godwin (leg) and Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder) are already ruled out, and Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) could also miss time, makes Evan's status more important. We'll have more when the Bucs begin practicing Thursday. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (leg) is 'not in play' for Week 7, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
Footballguys view: "Chris is not in play to practice, so I'm sure he won't be back," Bowles said Monday. Godwin is dealing with a fibula injury that Bowles has described as "week to week." Remember, rookie Emeka Egbuka could also miss time with a hamstring injury suffered in Sunday's win over the 49ers. Mike Evans, who's missed the three games with a hamstring injury, could return this week. Sterling Shepherd and rookie Tez Johnson will move up in the rotation as needed. |
Chris Godwin player page
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder) is 'not in play' for Week 7, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
Footballguys view: Irving missed his second-straight game Sunday. The Buccaneers won both games in his absence with backup Rachaad White carrying a majority of the load -- but that's not to say the running game has been successful, as they've had mixed results in Irving's absence. With Irving out a third week in a row, White will once again assume the bell-cow role, with reserve Sean Tucker seeing increased time as well. |
After Sunday's loss to the Broncos, during which the Jets offense gave new meaning to the term "offensive," coach Aaron Glenn bristled at a question regarding whether he'd bench starting quarterback Justin Fields. By Monday morning, Glenn had a more measured response after reflecting on the question that was asked about whether Fields should sit. "When you look at what Justin did, the games that he played," Glenn told reporters. "Listen, I didn't think he was bad at all. I actually thought he did some pretty good things in those four games. In this fifth game, he took a step back."
Footballguys view: A step back is a generous assessment. Fields completed 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards, and he lost 55 yards on nine sacks, resulting in a franchise-low minus-10 net passing yards, the worst by any team in nearly three decades. The Jets play the Panthers and Bengals before their Week 9 bye. It's on Fields to turn it around soon, or Tyrod Taylor will likely be getting a chance to help the Jets turn yet another bad season around -- and to perhaps keep Glenn from being one and done as the team's head coach. |

Philadelphia Eagles DE Za'Darius Smith announced his retirement Monday, Oct. 13.
Footballguys view: The Eagles came into the season with question marks at edge rusher following the departures of Brandon Graham (retirement) and Josh Sweat (free agency). The position took a further hit when Nolan Smith Jr. was placed on injured reserve in late September. Ogbo Okoronkwo was also placed on IR after their Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Bucs. Nolan Smith is expected back after the Eagles' Week 9 bye. Two veteran players the team signed to one-year contracts this offseason, Joshua Uche and Azeez Ojulari, will likely step into bigger roles alongside starter Jalyx Hunt. |

While coach Sean McVay says he's day to day, Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua (ankle) could miss the Week 7 game in London with a sprained ankle, according to sources.
Footballguys view: McVay noted he's encouraged by Nacua's scans and that it is not considered a long-term injury. The Rams have a bye after their London game, which could give Nacua a couple weeks of rest while missing only one game before the Week 9 contest against the Saints at home. The Rams are staying in Baltimore this week before heading across the pond to play the Jaguars. We'll follow up as developments warrant. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) will undergo an MRI Monday, Oct. 13, and is expected to miss some time.
Footballguys view: Although Egbuka could miss time, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted the injury "does not seem serious." Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio reported the same Sunday night. We'll continue to watch for more on this while noting Rapoport joined the chorus reminding us that wide receiver Mike Evans is nearing a return and that Chris Godwin is listed week-to-week with his fibula injury. Sterling Shepherd and Tez Johnson will move up in the rotation as needed. |

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff completed 23 of his 29 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.
Footballguys view: Goff had a touchdown reception from running back David Montgomery taken off the board on Detroit's opening drive by an illegal motion penalty on the trick play where Goff motioned from under center out wide before receiving a pass from Montgomery. Still, Goff has a passing touchdown in 12 straight games, which is the longest streak of his career. He played well, but the offense couldn't find a groove in the second half. The Lions will face the Buccaneers in Detroit on Monday Night Football in Week 7. |

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 22-of-30 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions, while adding 10 runs for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Footballguys view: Mahomes orchestrated five scoring drives in seven non-kneel possessions. The first score of the night was his 300th career touchdown pass. Mahomes took what the Lions defense would give him. He had just one attempt (an incompletion) beyond 20 yards, completing 17 of 21 passes for 164 yards and all three of his scores on short (zero to 9 yards) or behind-the-line-of-scrimmage passes. At 3-3, it's difficult to make a case that the Chiefs are totally on point, but the offense has really been stellar most of the season -- and Rashee Rice comes back for Week 7. |
