Lions | Extension talks to begin for Aidan Hutchinson? Fri May 23, 01:53 AM
Detroit Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson (leg) is fully cleared to practice, and contract extension talks are expected to 'kickstart' now that he is healthy, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Footballguys view: Hutchinson said he has been "fully cleared" to return from the fractured tibia and fibula he suffered in 2024. Now, it's time for the two sides to talk contract. He's one of the best in the business at the EDGE position, but this injury may keep his next contract from being a market-resetting deal. |
Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan is 'that guy,' according to fellow receiver and new teammate Adam Thielen.'He's a big long receiver that has phenomenal body control and can make contested catches and can play a lot of different spots, which, in this league, in my opinion, to be a great receiver in this league, you have to be able to play in the slot, you have to be able to play outside, you have to be able to run a lot of different routes and make contested catches. So, from the little I've seen, he's that guy,' Thielen told the team's website recently.
Footballguys view: It's high praise from a veteran like Thielen, and for good reason; McMillan might be the best wide receiver from this draft class. He's got a dash of Mike Evans to his game, and McMillan can win in many different ways. With McMillan's natural talent (and his big body being a red zone threat), Fantasy GMs like him as a WR3/WR4 with upside. |
Las Vegas Raiders OT Thayer Munford (undisclosed) did not participate in drills during OTAs Wednesday, May 22.

Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby (ankle) said he is recovered from offseason surgery, and he was a full participant during OTAs Wednesday, May 21. 'I didn't have an offseason,' Crosby said. 'I've been here the whole time. It's been five months of hardcore training and rehabbing every single day.'

Baltimore Ravens S Sanoussi Kane and S Beau Brade likely will be candidates for the No. 3 safety job this upcoming season with S Ar'Darius Washington (Achilles) sidelined, in the opinion of BaltimoreRavens.com's Ryan Mink.

Undrafted free-agent QB Brett Gabbert (Miami) signed with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, May 22. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived LB William Bradley-King.
Link to storyCincinnati Bengals OT Cordell Volson had his base salary reduced by $3.7 million on Thursday, May 22, although the team increased his guaranteed money by an undisclosed amount and gave him the opportunity to 'earn more cash depending on how the battle at guard shakes out,' according to ESPN.com's Ben Baby.
Link to storyNew England Patriots WR Efton Chism III - whose undrafted free-agent contract contains more guarantees than any of the team's seventh-round draft picks - stood out in a big way during organized team activities on Tuesday, May 20, according to NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry. One particular stop-and-go move had Perry reminiscing about Julian Edelman.'The guy who stood out to me today was Efton Chism, and it wasn't because he had this amazing connection with Drake Maye. I don't think Drake Maye threw him a pass in competitive periods. He looked really quick to me. This is the undrafted rookie out of Eastern Washington. He decelerates at a very rapid rate. He'll be running a crosser, catch it and stop on a dime and create separation for himself in that kind of way,' Perry told Tom Curran on 'Patriots Talk Podcast'.
Footballguys view: Chism has some Danny Amendola to his game (he's not Cooper Kupp - a fellow Eastern Washington alum). He was impressive at the Shrine Bowl earlier this year, and he can get open in a phone booth. Chism is a player we appreciate in super deep dynasty formats. |
Cincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton has 'attacked practice the right way (this offseason),' according to head coach Zac Taylor.'All he can handle is the present at this point. I think he's done a good job of that this offseason. He's been in the building. He's in the building outside of work hours, doing his own thing, prehabbing to get his body right. He has attacked practice the right way and that is what you can control right now so I appreciate that much,' Taylor told SI.com's Jay Morrison.
Footballguys view: Burton has a ton of talent, and that's why the Bengals took a chance on him last year coming out of Alabama. As a rookie, Burton barely saw the field and only finished with four catches for 107 yards. If motivated properly, Burton could be a playmaker on one of the league's best offenses. Fantasy GMs in deep dynasty leagues who believe that can happen could pick up Burton on the cheap. |
New Orleans Saints OT Trevor Penning is 'doing an excellent job' and 'embracing (a move inside to guard),' according to head coach Kellen Moore.
Link to storyChicago Bears WR Rome Odunze is 'very much like a seasoned pro' and someone head coach Ben Johnson has been 'extremely impressed' with so far.'To be a second-year guy, you would expect a little bit more inconsistency. And yet, the way he approaches the meeting room, the walk-throughs, the on-field, the drill work, it's very much like a seasoned pro, some of the best that I've been around. ... I think we're going to see a lot of growth from him, not just in the springtime, but once we get to camp,' Johnson said during his press conference on Wednesday, May 21.
Footballguys view: Good news for the second-year receiver. Odunze had a disappointing rookie season with all the hype that was generated during the draft last year for the first-round receiver. He finished with 54 catches for 734 yards and three touchdowns. Now, with Johnson running the offense, Odunze is seen as a WR3/flex option with plenty of upside. |
New York Giants LB Brian Burns had $10 million of his base salary for the 2025 converted into a signing bonus on Thursday, May 22.

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) remains undecided about his playing future as of Thursday, May 22, but the Pittsburgh Steelers remain open to signing him, according to team president Art Rooney II, who repeated the team will wait 'a little while longer.'
Footballguys view: It seems like a matter of 'when' and not 'if' with the Steelers and Rodgers. The team is open to signing him, and the Steelers might be the best (and only?) remaining landing spot for the veteran. Rodgers throwing to DK Metcalf with the support of a strong rushing attack sounds like a recipe for success. We'll continue to wait for something most everyone thinks is going to happen. |

New York Giants first-round draft choice DE Abdul Carter (Penn State) signed his four-year rookie contract worth $45.255 million on Thursday, May 22.
Link to storyFormer Jacksonville Jaguars assistant general manager Ethan Waugh is expected to return to the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source. Before his time with the Jaguars, Waugh served as the 49ers' vice president of player personnel from 2021 to 2022.
Footballguys view: The move makes sense as Waugh worked for the 49ers for 17 years. When Trent Baalke left the 49ers for the Jaguars a few years ago, Waugh followed him to Florida. With Baalke fired, and James Gladstone hired, Waugh now goes back to the 49ers in a yet undetermined role. |
Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill 'has been great,' according to wide receivers coach Robert Prince.'Tyreek's been great. If I text him, he texts me back. If I call him, he calls me back. He says I'm going to be here, he's been here. And it's been great. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Tyreek, and he's a great leader in the room,' Prince recently told the Miami Herald.
Footballguys view: Good news for the Dolphins here. Hill hinted about wanting to be traded away earlier this year, but things seem to have smoothed over. He underwent a second, pre-planned surgery to remove screws placed in his wrist during the first offseason surgery. Now, Hill seems to be doing great on his road to recovery. Hill should push for low-end WR1 numbers in 2025. |

Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft choice DT Derrick Harmon (Oregon) signed his four-year rookie contract on Thursday, May 22. Financial details of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but the pact includes a fifth-year team option.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey continues to garner trade interest, but the team said nothing is imminent.
Footballguys view: While nothing may be imminent, Ramsey is likely gone in the near future. The Dolphins would incur a $25 million salary cap hit if they trade him before July 1, and it's roughly $7 million if he's dealt after that. Wolfe has reported a few teams to monitor, including the Rams, Panthers, and Falcons. |

New Orleans Saints QB Jake Haener (oblique) suffered an oblique strain Wednesday, May 21, and will miss a couple of weeks.
Footballguys view: Bad news for the third-year quarterback. He was competing to establish a pecking order as the Saints have a wide-open quarterback competition. Now, Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough have a leg up over Haener. This injury keeps Haener out of OTAs and minicamp, but he should be back by training camp. |

Los Angeles Chargers WR Tre Harris 'fits the mold' of what LA needs from its outside wide receivers, in the opinion of The Athletic's Daniel Popper, who writes that Harris' ability to 'attack defenses outside the numbers' should make opposing secondaries 'divide their attention' instead of focusing solely on stopping WR Ladd McConkey out of the slot.
Footballguys view: Harris can work all three levels of the field. He's got the run-after-the-catch ability to take short passes and turn them into long gains. He's got the fearlessness to work over the middle on intermediate routes. He's even got the late hands/ball-tracking to work as a downfield threat. With a nose for the end zone, Harris will be an interesting no.3 receiver for the Chargers...and a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs in deep leagues. |
New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson will be targeted 'as much as possible' next season, according to head coach Aaron Glenn.
Footballguys view: We love that idea for the Jets and for Fantasy GMs out there. We'll see QB Justin Fields target Wilson early and often this year, and the strength of the connection will tell us how many fantasy points can be earned. Wilson is a WR2 with upside, but those numbers could push for WR1 range if he's getting targeted as much as possible. |
Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward's four-year contract is worth $48.7 million with the entire amount being fully guaranteed.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers first-round draft choice DT Derrick Harmon signed a four-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, May 21, worth $17,973,604. The deal also includes a fifth-year option.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers S Javon Bullard could be the odd man out in the secondary, in the opinion of The Athletic's Matt Schneidman, who writes that newly signed CB Nate Hobbs is likely to play in the slot in nickel situations with CBs Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine (or CB Jaire Alexander, if he remains with the club) working on the outside. Bullard is currently behind S Evan Williams on the safety depth chart as well, per Schneidman.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd offers 'intriguing speed' and a 'pass-catching element' that 'could do wonders for the Packers' offense,' in the opinion of The Athletic's Matt Schneidman, who notes that Lloyd is working without restrictions this offseason after missing all but one game as a rookie due to injury.
Footballguys view: Lloyd's rookie season was cut short by a hamstring injury and appendicitis in 2024. He's got speed, and he wastes little motion as a runner. If healthy, Lloyd is a player we like (especially in deep dynasty formats) and can win the no.2 job behind Josh Jacobs in 2025. |
The Arizona Cardinals signed free-agent LB J.J. Russell (Buccaneers) on Wednesday, May 21. In a corresponding move, LB Milo Eifler was released.
Link to storyTennessee Titans first-round draft choice QB Cam Ward signed a four-year contract with the Titans Wednesday, May 21. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal does include a fifth-year option.
Footballguys view: Ward is participating in the team's offseason program after participating in the team's rookie minicamp earlier this month. While splitting first-team reps with Will Levis, Ward will surely be the Week 1 starter in Tennessee. The rookie is QB26 on the Footballguys Projections. |
Carolina Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad III (undisclosed) was moved to the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, May 21, after clearing waivers.
Link to storyFree-agent CB Gregory Junior (Texans) signed with the Green Bay Packers Wednesday, May 21. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also released CB Kaleb Hayes.
Link to storyHouston Texans OG Jerome Carvin and DE Kingsley Jonathan were waived Wednesday, May 21.
Link to storyChicago Bears WR Luther Burden III (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, May 21, because of a soft tissue injury, according to head coach Ben Johnson.
Footballguys view: "We're working through a little soft-tissue deal with him right now, and it remains to be seen when we'll get him back," Johnson said. The Bears selected Burden with the 39th overall pick, the sixth wide receiver off the board. It has Burden motivated to make "everybody who passed up on me . . . pay." He might not have tremendous redraft value this season, but Burden's versatility and ability to create yards after the catch made him a focal point of Missouri's offense. His long-term future in Johnson's offense in Chicago should be of great interest to Dynasty investors. |
Free-agent LB JJ Russell (Buccaneers) signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, May 21. Financial terms were not disclosed. The team also released LB Milo Eifler.
Link to storyDetroit Lions first-round draft choice DT Tyleik Williams signed a four-year contract with the Lions Wednesday, May 21, worth $16.458 million. The deal includes a fifth-year option.
Link to storyFree-agent OG Nick Broeker (Texans) signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, May 21. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyA proposed ban of the tush push play that the Philadelphia Eagles have popularized did not receive enough votes at the spring meeting Wednesday in Eagan, Minnesota. Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the final vote was 22-10 on the proposal, which the Green Bay Packers submitted. The proposal needed 24 votes to pass.
Footballguys view: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has double-digit rushing touchdowns in each of the last four years. His 52 rushing touchdowns over that span are 12 more than Josh Allen's 40 for Buffalo. No other quarterback has 20 rushing touchdowns over the last four years. That rushing equity is an integral part of Hurts' fantasy success and a big reason he sits at QB5 in the current Footballguys Projections. |

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has had some contract extension talks with the Jets this offseason and hopes to remain with the team for the rest of his career.
Footballguys view: Wilson has three straight seasons with over 80 receptions and 1,000 yards to start his career in the league, joining Odell Beckham Jr., Michael Thomas, Justin Jefferson, and Ja'Marr Chase as the only receivers in NFL history to accomplish that feat. He's done it despite dealing with sub-par quarterback play in New York. This year, Wilson could benefit from the signing of QB Justin Fields. The two had success together at Ohio State, so their reunion could produce some numbers in 2025. If so, Wilson will be a value. He's currently WR25 on the Footballguys Projections. |
Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin did not attend the team's offseason workout Wednesday, May 21. He is entering the final year of his current contract.
Footballguys view: According to FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz, McLaurin had been a full participant previously, so it is unclear whether his absence was related to his desire for a contract extension. The start of Phase 3 of the program next week will better indicate whether McLaurin is making a statement. A third-round pick in 2019, McLaurin had a career-best 13 touchdowns in his first season playing with QB Jayden Daniels. He caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards, his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season. McLaurin is WR17 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections. |

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye threw four interceptions during team drills at practice Tuesday, May 20.
Footballguys view: As USA Today's Jordy McElroy suggested, we shouldn't press the panic button at the first OTA practice open to the media. The offense has several new pieces, including the play-caller. They are still all working to get in sync with one another. It also wasn't all bad news, considering Maye started to settle down later in the practice. Limiting turnovers will be a point of emphasis for the second-year man, who's currently QB17 on the Footballguys Projections. |
New England Patriots DT Christian Barmore (illness) was a full participant during practice Tuesday, May 20.
