Vikings | Feeling good about Jalen Nailor for opener    Sun Aug 31, 02:52 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Jalen Nailor (hand) is trending upward for the Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears, as the team is optimistic he'll be ready to play after missing time due to a hand injury. Per sources, barring any setbacks, Nailor should be ready to play.

Footballguys view: Nailor's role won't be as large as it would have been before the team acquired Adam Thielen, but he'll still be the complementary receiver more likely to get deep targets that can turn into big plays. Nailor isn't on our redraft radar, but his presence could help JJ McCarthy.

Chiefs | Hollywood Brown able to practice    Sun Aug 31, 02:11 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown (ankle) was able to practice Sunday, Aug. 31, and head coach Andy Reid said the veteran receiver 'should be fine' for the regular-season opener. Brown missed time in training camp and the preseason due to an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: Brown is worth drafting in typical leagues to see if he gets off to a hot start with Rashee Rice suspended and fourth round rookie Jalen Royals likely out for at least Week 1 with a knee issue. The Chiefs also have veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton, so it's possible that he is eased back into the lineup in the season opener in Brazil vs. the Chargers.

Lions | DET interested in extending Jameson Williams    Sun Aug 31, 12:21 PM

The Detroit Lions have started discussions with WR Jameson Williams regarding a potential contract extension, according to general manager Brad Holmes.

Footballguys view: This tends to corroborate reports that Williams role was being expanded in camp. It's possible that he and Amon-Ra St. Brown (who had a strong camp himself according to all reports) are more of a 1A/1B this year, which doesn't necessarily mean that St. Brown is overvalued. The Lions also have huge athletic third round pick Isaac TeSlaa, who dazzled in the preseason, as their newly minted #3 receiver.

Browns | Isaiah Bond still subject to NFL discipline    Sun Aug 31, 11:43 AM

The National Football League is still reviewing the sexual assault case of Cleveland Browns WR Isaiah Bond, even though there are no longer pending charges, according to league spokesman Brian McCarthy. He remains subject to NFL discipline, although no decision appears imminent.

Browns | Quinshon Judkins still subject to NFL discipline    Sun Aug 31, 11:26 AM

The National Football League is still reviewing the misdemeanor domestic battery case of Cleveland Browns RB Quinshon Judkins, even though there are no longer pending charges, according to league spokesman Brian McCarthy. He remains subject to discipline from the league, although no decision appears imminent.

Footballguys view: This is at least one of the reasons that Judkins hasn't signed yet. It's not clear when the league will conclude their investigation. Judkins camp and the Browns are also going to have to find a common ground to finalize changes to the contract that are called for in light of Judkins domestic violence incident and any league response to it. It's a stretch to imagine Judkins being ready to play in Week 1, and the impact he can make after that is subject to numerous variables, including the play of fellow rookie Dylan Sampson and passing down back Jerome Ford. If you take Judkins, you will have to hold him for an indefinite number of weeks before you even know what you have.

Jaguars | Travis Hunter on track for opener    Sat Aug 30, 03:11 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Travis Hunter (undisclosed) will be available to play in the Week 1 game, according to general manager James Gladstone.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Jaguars here. Hunter is the Heisman Trophy winner who wants to play on both sides of the ball in the pros just like he did at Colorado. He's a wide receiver who may dabble at cornerback for the Jaguars in 2025. From a fantasy perspective, Hunter is a WR3/flex option with upside as the no.2 receiver for the Jaguars opposite Brian Thomas Jr.

Titans | Kalel Mullings status up in the air    Sat Aug 30, 02:46 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Kalel Mullings (ankle) may be questionable for the Week 1 game, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: The Titans may have to face the Broncos in Week 1 with just Tony Pollard and Julius Chestnut in the backfield. With Tyjae Spears on IR-R, Mullings is the no.3 back on the depth chart in Tennessee.

Broncos | Nate Adkins may be FB option    Sat Aug 30, 02:23 PM

Broncos | Blake Watson could return    Sat Aug 30, 02:20 PM

Free-agent RB Blake Watson (Broncos) is a player the Denver Broncos are interested in signing to their practice squad but have to wait at least three weeks since they originally waived him with an injury settlement.

Footballguys view: Watson, a converted receiver coming out of Memphis last year, has impressed during his time with the Broncos last year and this summer. However, he's struggled to stay healthy and would be buried on the team's depth chart. Fantasy GMs in crazy deep dynasty formats should be monitoring him.

Panthers | Jalen Coker lands on injured reserve    Sat Aug 30, 12:22 PM

The Carolina Panthers placed WR Jalen Coker (quadriceps) on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Aug. 30, due to a quadriceps injury.

Footballguys view: This quad injury is going to keep Coker out of action for at least the first four weeks of the regular season. When Coker returns to the field, he could provide some big plays from the slot for the Panthers. While he's out, Hunter Renfrow was brought back to fill that role.

Panthers | Carolina re-signing Hunter Renfrow    Sat Aug 30, 12:09 PM

The Carolina Panthers will re-sign free-agent WR Hunter Renfrow to their active roster Saturday, Aug. 30, according to multiple sources.

Footballguys view: Jalen Coker has a quad injury that has put him on IR/Designated to Return. Renfrow was cut just a few days ago as he failed to make the 53-man roster at final cuts. He returns to fill the slot role while Coker is on the mend. In PPR formats, we'll be curious to see if Renfrow can provide some deep flex value.

Cowboys | Ryan Flournoy joins practice squad    Sat Aug 30, 11:50 AM

The Dallas Cowboys brought back free-agent WR Ryan Flournoy (Cowboys) for their practice squad Saturday, Aug. 30, after he had cleared waivers Friday, Aug. 29.

Footballguys view: A sixth-round pick (Southeast Missouri State) of the Cowboys in 2024, Flournoy impressed on film and in the pre-draft process with an outstanding size/speed/athleticism combination. Flournoy played in 11 games last season as a rookie for the Cowboys, starting one game. His rookie season ended with 10 catches for 102 yards, but Flournoy has the upside to do much more. Now, back with the Cowboys on the practice squad, he can continue to develop his game. Fantasy GMs in deep dynasty formats should be alert to his status.

Vikings | Adam Thielen restructures    Sat Aug 30, 11:34 AM

Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen agreed to terms on a revised contract Saturday, Aug. 30, according to multiple sources. His salary has been reduced by $2 million and $4 million in incentives were also removed from the deal.

Footballguys view: When acquired by the Vikings just a few days ago, the plan was to work on his contract to make it more team-friendly. He wanted to return to Minnesota, and that is going to cost him millions. Thielen is a fan favorite, and he brings his experience back to the field for the Vikings. Thielen will be the team's no.2 receiver while Jordan Addison is suspended (three games).

Lions | Aidan Hutchinson extension talks underway    Sat Aug 30, 10:30 AM

The Detroit Lions and DE Aidan Hutchinson (leg) have started having discussions regarding a contract extension, according to general manager Brad Holmes.

Footballguys view: That contract Micah Parsons got from the Packers (record-setting extension worth $188 million over four years) is going to change the structure for a Lions deal with Hutchinson. As one of the best EDGE defenders in the league, Hutchinson is likely to get a huge payday. However, he's returning from a major injury, having suffered season-ending tibia and fibula fractures last fall (October).

Falcons | Kyle Pitts a trade candidate?    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts could be a trade candidate if the Falcons struggle ahead of the trade deadline, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Pitts has a ton of physical talent, but things have failed to come together for the former top-10 pick outside of his 1,000-yard season as a rookie. We'll see what kind of connection the veteran tight end can build with second-year quarterback Michael Penix. Fantasy GMs who still trust Pitts can look at him in his normal low-end TE1 spot with upside.

Commanders | Deebo Samuel eyes return to form    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Washington Commanders WR Deebo Samuel dropped weight this offseason and looks 'leaner and faster,' according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Samuel got too big and out of shape with the 49ers, partly to have better protection from the beating he takes on the field. That added weight made the run-after-the-catch specialist look sluggish. Samuel gets a fresh start with the Commanders and has one of the best young quarterbacks throwing him the ball. He's a WR3 for Fantasy GMs with the upside to be more if he stays healthy.

Patriots | Kayshon Boutte making a leap?    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte had a 'stunning' offseason turnaround, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Boutte seems to be locked in as the Patriots no.3 receiver behind Stefon Diggs and Demario Douglas. There's some 'what the heck' flex appeal in deeper leagues if he takes the work from the summer and translates that to regular season success.

Patriots | TreVeyon Henderson has Pats excited    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson has the team 'ecstatic,' according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, and Howe believes Henderson could become the lead back.

Footballguys view: Everyone should be excited by Henderson. He's a big play waiting to happen, and Henderson can flip the field anytime he touches the ball - both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. The rookie from Ohio State is going to split time with Rhamondre Stevenson this season. In fact, many are expecting Henderson to take over in the backfield. That's why Henderson is seen by most as an RB2 with RB1 upside.

Panthers | Ja'Tavion Sanders making strides    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Ja'Tavion Sanders has really improved as a pass catcher, according to head coach Dave Canales.

Footballguys view: It takes time for tight ends to fully develop at the pro level. Entering his second pro season, Sanders has the athletic profile to be a receiving weapon for the Panthers. From a fantasy perspective, Sanders is a TE3 worth keeping an eye on if/when he's on your waiver wire in deeper leagues.

Cowboys | Javonte William listed as starter    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams is listed as the starter on the team's first official depth chart of the season.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys rushing attack does not strike fear into an opponent. Williams was below average as a starter for the Broncos, and that's likely what he's going to be with his new team in 2025. He's a plodding runner, good in pass protection but only decent as a receiver on screen passes. Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue will split time behind Williams.

Dolphins | Darren Waller working to get ready for opener    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Miami Dolphins TE Darren Waller said he will be working a lot with QB Tua Tagovailoa next week so he can knock some rust off after sitting out the 2024 season. 'Just getting reps, getting time under tension, knowing how he's getting the ball off when he hits his drop,' Waller said. 'What that looks like for me, whip my head around and having that ball come in which I felt like was a great start today. It's just time, just continuing to grind at it and those things start to become second nature.'

Footballguys view: Waller came out of retirement to join the Dolphins, and with his injury history we look at him as a low-end TE2. His target share will be dictated by his health and availability. Plus, Waller could see less work if both WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are at full strength.

Titans | Calvin Ridley looking to help rookie QB    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley said he is looking to play well this season so he can help QB Cam Ward during his rookie season. 'It was like, this kid's good and I got to be good. I can't fall behind. I got to be a help. I got to be a big help cause it's time to dominate,' Ridley said.

Footballguys view: Ward and Ridley have spent time away from the facility working on route concepts, and the rookie QB thinks the veteran receiver is one of the five best in the NFL. That's high praise, and Ridley does provide fantasy value as a low-end WR2 or WR3/flex with upside.

Dolphins | Malik Washington has earned QB's trust    Fri Aug 29, 05:06 PM

Miami Dolphins WR Malik Washington said he spent the offseason trying to earn the trust of QB Tua Tagovailoa. 'If he invites me somewhere, I'm going to show up because I know that he values that and I also value that as well, so trying to build that connection in the offseason,' Washington said.

Footballguys view: Washington could soak up some of the Jonnu Smith short targets that set up run after catch opportunities and don't allow defenses to tee off on Tua Tagovailoa. He should be on your PPR waiver wire watch list and could end up being fantasy relevant this year if the Dolphins deal Tyreek Hill during the season.

Patriots | Christian Gonzalez facing uphill battle?    Fri Aug 29, 05:06 PM

New England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez's (hamstring) conditioning could prevent him from being ready for the season opener, according to head coach Mike Vrabel. 'In my own personal experience, you can only ride the bike so long or do the stair climber or something,' Vrabel said. 'You actually have to come out here, put pads on, run and get into football conditioning.'

Footballguys view: The Raiders are coming to Foxboro for the season opener. This could help Geno Smith, Dont'e Thornton and Jakobi Meyers get off to a good start. The Patriots depth behind Gonzalez is largely untested. Jeff Howe of The Athletic wrote that it is "tough to pin down a timetable on his return".

Patriots | Mack Hollins to start early on?    Fri Aug 29, 05:06 PM

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins is the 'best option' to start as the outside receiver across from WR Stefon Diggs in the season opener, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Third round pick Kyle Williams is behind Hollins, Kayshon Boutte (who had a good summer in his first camp under Mike Vrabel) and Demario Douglas right now, but the team should mix him in to add his quickness and speed to an offense that sorely needs it. Hollins is the superior blocker and can hold his own against NFL starting outside corners while Williams watches and learns. Williams may end up dropped early on by disappointed fantasy players, but if the Patriots offense improves - especially Drake Maye - Williams could be an impact player in the second half of the season.

Vikings | Health issue for Harrison Smith     Fri Aug 29, 05:06 PM

Minnesota Vikings S Harrison Smith (undisclosed) has been sidelined for most of the month of August with a personal health issue, according to multiple sources. Smith will be evaluated on a weekly basis but is expected to make a full recovery.

Footballguys view: Smith's Week 1 status becomes uncertain with this news. The Vikings signed K'Von Wallace to the practice squad. They like backups Theo Jackson and Jay Ward, so if Smith misses the game, it might not be that big of a hit to the defense.
