Falcons | Kyle Pitts a trade candidate? Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM
Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts could be a trade candidate if the Falcons struggle ahead of the trade deadline, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Pitts has a ton of physical talent, but things have failed to come together for the former top-10 pick outside of his 1,000-yard season as a rookie. We'll see what kind of connection the veteran tight end can build with second-year quarterback Michael Penix. Fantasy GMs who still trust Pitts can look at him in his normal low-end TE1 spot with upside. |

Washington Commanders WR Deebo Samuel dropped weight this offseason and looks 'leaner and faster,' according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Samuel got too big and out of shape with the 49ers, partly to have better protection from the beating he takes on the field. That added weight made the run-after-the-catch specialist look sluggish. Samuel gets a fresh start with the Commanders and has one of the best young quarterbacks throwing him the ball. He's a WR3 for Fantasy GMs with the upside to be more if he stays healthy. |

New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte had a 'stunning' offseason turnaround, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Boutte seems to be locked in as the Patriots no.3 receiver behind Stefon Diggs and Demario Douglas. There's some 'what the heck' flex appeal in deeper leagues if he takes the work from the summer and translates that to regular season success. |

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson has the team 'ecstatic,' according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, and Howe believes Henderson could become the lead back.
Footballguys view: Everyone should be excited by Henderson. He's a big play waiting to happen, and Henderson can flip the field anytime he touches the ball - both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. The rookie from Ohio State is going to split time with Rhamondre Stevenson this season. In fact, many are expecting Henderson to take over in the backfield. That's why Henderson is seen by most as an RB2 with RB1 upside. |
Carolina Panthers TE Ja'Tavion Sanders has really improved as a pass catcher, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: It takes time for tight ends to fully develop at the pro level. Entering his second pro season, Sanders has the athletic profile to be a receiving weapon for the Panthers. From a fantasy perspective, Sanders is a TE3 worth keeping an eye on if/when he's on your waiver wire in deeper leagues. |
Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams is listed as the starter on the team's first official depth chart of the season.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys rushing attack does not strike fear into an opponent. Williams was below average as a starter for the Broncos, and that's likely what he's going to be with his new team in 2025. He's a plodding runner, good in pass protection but only decent as a receiver on screen passes. Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue will split time behind Williams. |

Miami Dolphins TE Darren Waller said he will be working a lot with QB Tua Tagovailoa next week so he can knock some rust off after sitting out the 2024 season. 'Just getting reps, getting time under tension, knowing how he's getting the ball off when he hits his drop,' Waller said. 'What that looks like for me, whip my head around and having that ball come in which I felt like was a great start today. It's just time, just continuing to grind at it and those things start to become second nature.'
Footballguys view: Waller came out of retirement to join the Dolphins, and with his injury history we look at him as a low-end TE2. His target share will be dictated by his health and availability. Plus, Waller could see less work if both WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are at full strength. |

Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley said he is looking to play well this season so he can help QB Cam Ward during his rookie season. 'It was like, this kid's good and I got to be good. I can't fall behind. I got to be a help. I got to be a big help cause it's time to dominate,' Ridley said.
Footballguys view: Ward and Ridley have spent time away from the facility working on route concepts, and the rookie QB thinks the veteran receiver is one of the five best in the NFL. That's high praise, and Ridley does provide fantasy value as a low-end WR2 or WR3/flex with upside. |

Link to storyMiami Dolphins WR Malik Washington said he spent the offseason trying to earn the trust of QB Tua Tagovailoa. 'If he invites me somewhere, I'm going to show up because I know that he values that and I also value that as well, so trying to build that connection in the offseason,' Washington said.
Footballguys view: Washington could soak up some of the Jonnu Smith short targets that set up run after catch opportunities and don't allow defenses to tee off on Tua Tagovailoa. He should be on your PPR waiver wire watch list and could end up being fantasy relevant this year if the Dolphins deal Tyreek Hill during the season. |
New England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez's (hamstring) conditioning could prevent him from being ready for the season opener, according to head coach Mike Vrabel. 'In my own personal experience, you can only ride the bike so long or do the stair climber or something,' Vrabel said. 'You actually have to come out here, put pads on, run and get into football conditioning.'
Footballguys view: The Raiders are coming to Foxboro for the season opener. This could help Geno Smith, Dont'e Thornton and Jakobi Meyers get off to a good start. The Patriots depth behind Gonzalez is largely untested. Jeff Howe of The Athletic wrote that it is "tough to pin down a timetable on his return". |

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins is the 'best option' to start as the outside receiver across from WR Stefon Diggs in the season opener, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Third round pick Kyle Williams is behind Hollins, Kayshon Boutte (who had a good summer in his first camp under Mike Vrabel) and Demario Douglas right now, but the team should mix him in to add his quickness and speed to an offense that sorely needs it. Hollins is the superior blocker and can hold his own against NFL starting outside corners while Williams watches and learns. Williams may end up dropped early on by disappointed fantasy players, but if the Patriots offense improves - especially Drake Maye - Williams could be an impact player in the second half of the season. |

Minnesota Vikings S Harrison Smith (undisclosed) has been sidelined for most of the month of August with a personal health issue, according to multiple sources. Smith will be evaluated on a weekly basis but is expected to make a full recovery.
Footballguys view: Smith's Week 1 status becomes uncertain with this news. The Vikings signed K'Von Wallace to the practice squad. They like backups Theo Jackson and Jay Ward, so if Smith misses the game, it might not be that big of a hit to the defense. |

Free-agent WR Kendrick Bourne (Patriots) is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Sept. 1, and the Washington Commanders Tuesday, Sept. 2, according to a source. Bourne has a framework for a deal in place with both teams.
Footballguys view: Bourne could actually have a fantasy relevant role in San Francisco because of the plethora of wide receiver injuries there, and he spent the first four years of his career with the 49ers, so the familiarity on both sides should make them the favorite to land him. Washington pursuing him is not a great sign for Noah Brown's health or Luke McCaffrey's development. |

Miami Dolphins CB Cam Smith (illness) was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list Thursday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: Smith was a 2023 second round pick. He has failed to develop under two different defensive coordinators and was beat out by Storm Duck this summer. He's probably on the roster bubble. The Dolphins secondary was completely overhauled this offseason and they added JuJu Brents and Rasul Douglas in recent days as an admission that the current group isn't going to get it done. Daniel Jones and the Colts passing game could start hot vs. Miami next week. |

Dallas Cowboys WR Ryan Flournoy was waived Thursday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: The size/speed small school receiver was a sixth round pick last year, but the Cowboys preferred to use the roster spot on the Eagles 2024 fifth round pick, OL Trevor Keegan. The Cowboys only have four wide receivers on the roster after this move. |
Philadelphia Eagles C Willie Lampkin (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Aug. 29.

New York Giants CB Rico Payton (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Aug. 29.
Link to storyNew York Giants TE Theo Johnson (undisclosed) has not practiced this week and is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Brian Daboll.
Footballguys view: Johnson was a surprise rookie contributor last year and he's one of the fastest tight ends in the league, so there was some anticipation that he could get onto the fantasy radar this year. His injury is a bit mysterious, so we shouldn't be surprised if he's out for Week 1. Daniel Bellinger would be the next man up. |
New York Giants OT Andrew Thomas (foot) said he is not sure if he will be available for the Week 1 game.
Footballguys view: If Thomas still doesn't feel right after suffering a lisfranc injury in 2024, the team shouldn't put him out there against Washington. James Hudson was signed to a two year, $12 million deal in the offseason, but fifth round pick Marcus Mbow has outperformed him and might be the better option if Thomas is out. We can't assume that Thomas will ready for Week 2 against the Micah Parsons-less Cowboys if he's not playing in the opener. |

Free-agent WR Javon Baker (Patriots) plans to join the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.
Footballguys view: Baker has undeniable talent, but was inconsistent and fell out of favor with two different coaching staffs in two years. He was a fourth round pick last year and should still be on our watch list in deep dynasty leagues. The Eagles have one of the softest wide receiver depth charts in the league, so Baker could climb it quickly if he can redeem himself. |
Tennessee Titans RB Jermar Jefferson was released from the practice squad Friday, Aug. 29.

Green Bay Packers WR Savion Williams (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Jayden Reed (foot) just returned to practice this week so the Packers will be a bit precarious with only Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, and Malik Heath fully healthy for the season opener against the Lions. Tucker Kraft could play a larger role and Luke Musgrave could be on the field a lot in two tight end sets after having a good summer. |
Free-agent RB DeeJay Dallas (Cardinals) was signed to the Carolina Panthers practice squad Thursday, Aug. 28.

Free agent WR Gunner Olszewski signed back with the New York Giants on Friday, Aug. 29.

San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: At this point, it would be a surprise if Jennings gets in a full practice next week, and if that's the case, it would be unwise for the 49ers play him in Week 1. He has been out for over a month since re-injuring the calf and needs some reconditioning before the team considers putting him in game action. Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Ricky Pearsall should dominate targets in the tough matchup at Seattle in the season opener. |

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jalen Royals (knee) is expected to miss Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, head coach Andy Reid announced on Friday, Aug. 20.
Footballguys view: Marquise Brown has had a quiet summer after missing most of camp with an ankle injury. but the team will rely on him to play a big role in Week 1. Tyquan Thornton made the final roster after generating some camp buzz and could get some snaps with Royals out and Rashee Rice suspended for the season opener in Brazil against the Chargers. |
Seattle Seahawks WR Jake Bobo (concussion) is still going through the concussion, but head coach Mike Macdonald said the team will know more about his status over the weekend.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tory Horton (ankle) participated in practice Thursday, Aug. 28. Head coach Mike Macdonald said the team hopes Horton will be a full participant at some point next week.
Footballguys view: Horton is set to open the season as the #3 receiver if he is healthy enough to play. #4 receiver Jake Bobo is in concussion protocol. It's possible that Dareke Young or Cody White will see snaps at wide receiver in the season opener against the 49ers. |
