Jets | Allen Lazard should be available Mon Aug 25, 02:59 PM
New York Jets WR Allen Lazard (shoulder) should be available for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Aaron Glenn.
Footballguys view: Lazard, who was injured in the team's first preseason game, told Brian Costello of the New York Post that he will practice on Monday and confirmed that he is on track to play in the season opener against the Steelers. Lazard joins Tyler Johnson, Josh Reynolds, and fourth-round pick Arian Smith in the mix for playing time alongside Garrett Wilson at receiver for the Jets. Wilson, currently going as WR15 in Round 3, is the only viable fantasy asset in this wide-receiving corps. |
Philadelphia Eagles TE Nick Muse was waived Monday, Aug. 25, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams OT Alaric Jackson (illness) is expected to be a full participant during practice Monday, Aug. 25, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) fully participated in practice Monday, Aug. 25. Head coach Sean McVay said Stafford is on track to play in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Stafford has been dealing with a disc injury in his back that kept him out of practice for the first few weeks of training camp. He's set to fully participate in practice this week, and McVay told reporters, "There's nothing that would leave me to believe, unless we have an unforeseen setback, that [Stafford's] not going to be ready to roll against the Texans." As long as Stafford is on the field, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams should return value for fantasy investors. |

Link to storyNew Orleans Saints RB Cam Akers was released Monday, Aug. 25. The team also waived WR Roderick Daniels Jr., WR Moochie Dixon, TE Seth Green and TE Michael Jacobson.
Footballguys view: Akers, a 2020 second-round draft pick, signed with the Saints in June and has been competing for a backup spot behind Alvin Kamara. "NFL a crazy place," Akers wrote on X on Monday, adding a crying face emoji to his post. The Saints have not finalized their 53-man roster, but currently have Kamara, Kendre Miller, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Devin Neal, Marcus Yarns, and Velus Jones Jr. in their running back room. Miller has emerged as the primary backup to Kamara. |

New Orleans Saints QBs Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough continue to battle for the starting quarterback position Monday, Aug. 25.
Footballguys view: Rattler started two preseason games, including the finale, and Shough, the team's second-round pick in April's draft, got the other one. Jake Haener is listed alongside them on the team's unofficial depth chart, but signs point to Rattler or Shough getting the nod whenever Kellen Moore decides to put an end to the competition. After Saturday's game, Shough said that he believes he's shown what's needed to claim the job. Rattler said he has "no doubt" that he's ready for the starting job. Whatever the case, it shouldn't be long until we find out which way the Saints are going. |
New York Jets CB Sauce Gardner (calf) and QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) were out of practice Monday, Aug. 25.

Miami Dolphins RB Aaron Shampklin was released Monday, Aug. 25.
Link to storyWashington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin agreed to a three-year, $96 million extension Monday, Aug. 25.
Footballguys view: McLaurin has some catching up to do. After reporting to training camp earlier this month, he was placed on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury. He was activated from the PUP list Aug. 16, but hasn't practiced yet, and his average draft position has fallen to WR19 (down about five spots from its high). Still, by getting McLaurin back in the fold, the Commanders give Jayden Daniels his favorite target when the season begins, and that's good news for all involved, including fantasy investors. |

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle, foot) has had a 'long and complicated' rehab, according to a source. There's no structural damage, but he plateaued during his rehab and sought some electromagnetic treatment. Beat writer Aaron Wilson believes Mixon needs more time.
Footballguys view: Mixon remains on the Non-Football Injury List, and his chances of being ready for Week 1 are all but nonexistent. With Mixon out, the Texans have Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and Woody Marks on the depth chart. While he got off to a slow start in camp, Chubb displayed burst and his trademark ability to break tackles in the team's second exhibition game against the Panthers. Considering he's all but certain to open the season as Houston's starter, Chubb's 12th-round price tag doesn't seem all that high. |

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton believes WR Marvin Mims will be the No. 2 receiver this season. 'I think Mims is the No. 2 receiver in my opinion,'' Sutton said. 'He works his butt off, and he can make plays anywhere.'
Footballguys view: Mims was an impact player on special teams as a rookie in 2023. He did not have a large role on offense, but that changed during his second season. Mims ended last season with 545 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns (a significant increase from his one offensive touchdown in 2023). He has emerged as an all-around weapon for Denver, and Mims continues to trend up going into Year 3. While Troy Franklin has drawn praise heading into his second season, Sutton's endorsement is noteworthy, with Mims being drafted as WR59 in Round 13, well ahead of Franklin. |

San Francisco 49ers RB Isaac Guerendo might only be used as a No. 3 option in the San Francisco backfield following the acquisition of RB Brian Robinson Jr. 'Brought (Robinson) here to be our 2-back,' head coach Kyle Shanahan said Sunday, Aug. 24. 'Always been a big fan of Brian.'
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers RB Brian Robinson Jr. is expected to serve as the primary backup to RB Christian McCaffrey. 'Brought him here to be our 2-back,' head coach Kyle Shanahan said Sunday, Aug. 24. 'Always been a big fan of Brian.'
Footballguys view: It sounds like Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James aren't going to matter in redraft leagues unless McCaffrey and Robinson get hurt. The 49ers liked both backs enough to take them in the mid rounds over the last two drafts, but they were not able to stay healthy this summer and forced the team to pick up a veteran backup to reinforce the depth chart. |
